The underground integrated sewage treatment equipment is a new water treatment solution designed to be buried below ground level. Its surface can be used for landscaping or other purposes without the need for additional buildings, heating, or insulation. Fully automated and easy to maintain, it requires no sludge return and operates without manual supervision.

This equipment is widely applicable for treating domestic sewage from residential areas, hotels, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, mines, factories, slaughterhouses, and similar sources of industrial wastewater.
Based on years of operational experience and technological advancements, MOTIVA developed a fully integrated, corrosion-resistant PP sewage treatment system used in this Gansu project. The goal is to process domestic and similar industrial organic wastewater to meet national discharge standards.
Process Description
The system is designed for treating domestic and light industrial wastewater using a mature biochemical method—biological contact oxidation. Based on an average BOD5 of 200mg/L, the equipment is designed to achieve an effluent BOD5 of 20mg/L. The system comprises six main parts:
- Primary sedimentation tank
- Contact oxidation tank
- Secondary sedimentation tank
- Disinfection tank with disinfection system
- Sludge tank
- Blower room with blower
This modular biological treatment unit uses biofilm as its core purification mechanism. The system integrates features from anaerobic biofilters and contact oxidation beds, offering high biological density, strong pollutant resistance, low energy consumption, stable operation, and easy maintenance.
Equipment Features

The equipment can be fully buried underground with its surface available for landscaping or other uses. It requires no additional buildings or insulation and is fully automated for simple operation and minimal maintenance. The entire treatment system includes an automatic electrical control panel that ensures safe, reliable operation without the need for daily human supervision. It operates with low noise, no odor, and has a long service life.
Centralized Underground Wastewater Treatment System
Within the integrated unit, wastewater is initially processed in the anaerobic tank, where complex organic compounds are broken down into simpler molecules, improving biodegradability and reducing color load.
Effluent then flows into the aerobic tank, where aerobic microorganisms further break down the organics into water and CO2. Afterward, it flows to the sedimentation tank, where solids settle out. The clarified water moves to the decolorization tank, then passes through an activated carbon absorption unit and precision filters for further polishing and reuse.
Some sludge is recycled back to the aerobic tank, while excess sludge is pumped into the sludge tank for periodic removal. The activated carbon and filters require scheduled backwashing, with the backwash water recycled into the system.
Application Scope
- Treatment capacity: Standard models range from 1.0 to 80.0 m3/h. For capacities above 80.0 m3/h, custom design is required.
- Influent concentration: Standard models accept BOD5 up to 250mg/L, and reinforced models up to 400mg/L. Higher concentrations require custom solutions.
- Suitable for residential communities, hotels, docks, airports, shopping malls, nursing homes, schools, factories, and other facilities requiring domestic or similar industrial wastewater treatment.
