Project DescriptionThe company’s main products include alachlor, methyl thiophanate, and phosgene-based intermediates such as salicyl nitrile, carbamates, and isocyanates. During production, high-salinity, high-COD organic wastewater is generated, with influent COD exceeding 30,000 mg/L. The existing treatment facilities face issues such as excessive chemical dosing without an automatic dosing system, large sludge production, and labor-intensive sludge cleaning, necessitating an upgrade.
According to the owner, at full production, wastewater generation is approximately 600 m³/day. Considering recent production characteristics, the project will implement phased upgrading, with Phase I designed for 200 m³/day continuous operation over 24 hours. Based on sampling and laboratory pilot tests, our proposed wastewater treatment upgrade adopts the MOTIVA catalytic self-electrolysis (CSE) process. After the upgrade, effluent COD is expected to be ≤15,000 mg/L. The system offers reasonable capital and operating costs, high automation, low management complexity, reduced chemical usage, minimal sludge production, and simple operation, ensuring long-term stable performance.

Project DescriptionA pharmaceutical manufacturer generates approximately 60 t/d of wastewater, mainly from the production and processing of pharmaceutical intermediates. Such wastewater is characterized by high COD, high ammonia nitrogen, high salinity, strong odor, and deep color. It contains a complex mixture of organic and inorganic pollutants, including toxic substances harmful to biological systems, such as nitrogen-containing heterocycles, aromatic amines, phenolic compounds, cyanides, and surfactants. The original treatment process included sand filtration, carbon filtration, coagulation-sedimentation, and biological treatment. However, due to the plant’s expanded production capacity and increased orders, an upgrade of the existing wastewater treatment station was required. MOTIVA Environmental undertook the pretreatment unit of this project, applying a process of Self-Electrolysis + Ozone Catalytic Oxidation + Coagulation-Sedimentation.This pretreatment significantly reduces COD, heavy metals, and other pollutants in the influent, thereby lowering the treatment load on the subsequent evaporation and biological systems. The treated effluent consistently meets Grade A standards of GB/T 31962-2015 – Discharge Standard of Wastewater into Municipal Sewers.
